Our Schools

With our eyes fixed on the future, but recognizing the realities of today…. we will achieve our destiny to be as a shining city on a hill for all mankind to see.  Ronald Reagan, 40th US President, 17 Mar 78

Our youth are our future and the schools serving Locust Grove help shape that future everyday.  We are fortunate to have a very progressive and forward-thinking school system in Henry County.  Most recently, the county took a major step forward by becoming the first county in Metro Atlanta to adopt an adjusted school calendar beginning in 2002.  The calendar provides one-week breaks in September, November, February, and April, in addition to the traditional two-week winter break, and Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, President’s Day, and Memorial Day holidays.

The Locust Grove Elementary School is located within the city limits at 95 Locust Grove - Griffin Road.  The school has a current enrollment of about 800 students and provides instruction for Kindergarten through 5th Grade.    The school lives up to its motto of  “Believe, Achieve, Succeed.”

Middle school students attend Luella Middle School located outside the city limits at 2075 Hampton-Locust Grove Road.  This is one of the newest schools in the county, opening on August 14, 2000, to an enrollment of 980 students.  Luella Middle School is located on land, which was once part of the antebellum Weems Planation and is named for the old Luella School which operated in the nearby town bearing the same name in the early 20th century until it was consolidated with Locust Grove in 1929.

Luella High School opened its doors in August 2003.  It is  located at 603 Walker Road which is off of of Hampton-Locust Grove Road.  It serves both the communities of Locust Grove and Hampton.  The school is presently the fifth high school in Henry County. It opened with approximately 1150 students in grades 9, 10, 11and 12, and approximately 100 employees.

All of our schools have active partners in education from throughout the community acting in unison with the school system to ensure a bright future for Locust Grove for many years to come.
